Just asking...again

When I was kid, I read a book about people who asked for and received seemingly impossible things. It was one of those Chicken Soup For The Soul type books filled with inspirational stories about people who did amazing things just because they had the guts to ask people for money or other resources. In moments like these in which I am about to ask people (you) to donate your hard-earned money, I remind myself of that book and make a blog-post plea for help. Might you consider contributing some funds toward the $1,200 program fees I need to pay to be a part of a house-building team in El Salvador? If so, please click the link below to go to my donation page.

I have this goal to volunteer in every country in North America and South America. Actually, my goal is to volunteer in every country in the world, but I think it's best to go in stages. So far, I only have three countries -- the United States, Ecuador, and Costa Rica. The El Salvador trip will be my fourth. My plan is to also visit three countries over summer break. If I volunteer in 7 countries a year for the next 16 years, I will have accomplished my world goal by the time I'm 60. It's doable, right?

Of course it is but only with a little help. I have a new hobby of scouring the Internet for travel grants, contests, and travel opportunities for teachers. Although there are some opportunities out there for financial help, I will mostly be paying my own way. The more help I get from people like you, the more quickly I can contribute to projects around the world and the more quickly I can meet my goal. I really don't want to drag this whole thing out until I'm 60.

Funding raised toward the cost of my Global Village trip will pay the cost of food, lodging and transportation during the trip, as well as health insurance. I've already purchased a plane ticket with my own funds. A portion of the required trip payment also supports the charitable purpose of the hosting Habitat for Humanity program.
